Today I wanted to talk about the best products you can get from the French brand L'Occitane En Provence. They are famous for using all-natural ingredients sourced directly and locally from Provence, France such as the lavender, almond oil, and immortelle flowers that they feature in their products.
They use actual lavender and not lavendene - a manufactured version - that seriously makes all the difference in scent and its anti-inflammatory properties. L'Occitane is known for their skin and body care products for all different skin types. Also, L'Occitane means "the woman from Occitania", which is the name of the ancient geographic area in southern France (I've always been curious). Okay let's get into it :)
If you ever buy just one thing from this brand, you have to try their infamous hand creams. They have a lot of different scents, but I'm partial to the Lavande Hand Cream and the Cherry Blossom Hand Cream scents. If you prefer your hand cream to be scentless, the regular Shea Butter Hand Cream is a popular choice. To be clear all their hand creams have shea butter.
A little bit of this cream goes a long way. I used a mini version of this for 6 months every time I went to the bathroom (I hated the soap smell used in my office), so the regular version should last a long time! My friends always commented on how baby soft my hands were and it was 100% due to this hand cream. I've tried other brands since then and none of them nourish my hands as well as the L'Occitane hand cream. Love this stuff so much! It also doesn't leave a sticky residue and sinks into your skin beautifully.
The savior for dry skin - this shower oil is somehow the most nourishing thing ever for dry skin. If you suffer from dry and flaky skin (especially if the shower runs too hot) then give this a try. The way you use it is to lather a bit of the oil with water to turn it into a milky lotion. The scent of almond is mild and good for both men and women. It somehow cleans your skin but also leaves it wonderfully moisturized at the same time? It's amazing. I bought this for a friend who has chronic eczema and super dry skin and it kept her skin smooth throughout the year. If you have normal but sensitive skin, your skin will seriously love this stuff too.
The other great thing about the L'Occitane Cleansing and Softening Almond Shower oil (such a long name) is that it lasts for a long time. If you have incredibly dry skin and pair this with a moisturizer afterwards, you'll be set and on your road to improving your skin's moisture barrier.
Speaking of moisturizers, the Ultra Rich Body Cream from L'Occitane is such a rich and luxurious moisturizer. I would say this is great for dry skin types all year round and normal skin types (on the body) in the colder months. The great thing about this is that it contains 25% shea butter (remember that star ingredient from their hand lotion?). The other great thing is that it doesn't leave a sticky residue and just sinks right in. This is my problem with some of my drugstore moisturizers - they take forever to absorb and it feels sticky for a while after I've applied. That doesn't happen with this one!
It doesn't have a heavy smell - very mild - so you can share with your girlfriend or boyfriend. Also if you're super active, get outdoors a lot, or play sports and have rougher skin, this will work really well in curing rough and dry skin. You also don't need very much of this product as it spreads really well, which is something I always check for in pricier moisturizers (if I'm going to run out after 5 uses, what's the point…) This cream is both light and rich and super hydrating on the body.
Remember the all-natural ingredients from France? This face cream contains immortelle, which is a flower that doesn't fade even after it's been picked and has great anti-aging properties. L'Occitane actually sources their own immortelle from their sustainable and organic immortelle plantation on the Mediterranean island of Corsica. This cream has antioxidant and anti-aging properties, which means it leaves the skin feeling firmer and tighter.
It also helps protect your skin against any environmental aggressions (sun, dust, smog, etc) so if you live in an urban setting or are in the outdoors often, this cream really helps in rebuilding the firmness and elasticity of your skin. You see results within the first week you use it. If you are interested in anti-aging products or preventing aging, this is one of those anti-aging products that are actually worth it.
This cream leaves just the right amount of moisture after you apply and really melts into your skin - you can actually go all day without that dry feeling you get in the afternoon with some other moisturizers. It's a splurge but totally worth it if you're in the market for an anti-aging product (or as a nice present for mom!).
This is a really great (and cheaper) alternative to the anti-aging cream above if you're more concerned about evening your skin tone and keeping your skin plump and moisturized. The Immortelle Precious Cream also has the same antioxidant and anti-aging immortelle ingredient, but it's formulated to reduce skin texture and keep your skin plump and moisturized. It contains hyaluronic acid, which is super effective in bringing moisture to the surface of your skin and locking it in place.
This is slightly less rich than the anti-aging cream, so it's perfect for normal to oily skin types during the day and night, as well as sensitive skin types. If your skin is super dry, it might be enough for a night time face cream (when you want a thicker cream to really sink in while you sleep), but could be just enough for day use!
Finally, this is one of the best things to get from L'Occitane if you are just getting introduced to the brand. It's a discovery kit that features the Shea Butter Hand Cream, the Shea Body Shower Oil, the Shea Butter Ultra Rich Body Cream, and the Shea Light Comforting Cream. It's pretty much the perfect set to get into their most famous line and sample what L'Occitane does best - hand, face, and body products.
Their products really last a long time so this set is such a nice present to yourself or to give to a close friend or coworker. The smell is very subtle (no scent other than the warm scent from the shea butter) so it's bound to be a hit to whoever you gift this too! I also love trying discovery kits to try out different products before committing to something at the full size.
