Hi everyone! Today we wanted to bring you all the best ways to save money on Amazon - a full comprehensive list of everything we could think of! We spend a lot of time scouring through the many product pages on Amazon and have gathered a great list of money-saving tips. You may have heard of a few of these, but this might be the first time you're hearing about some of these tips. Whether you pride yourself as a killer bargain hunter or are just looking for ways to reduce your budget in certain shopping categories, here are all the ways you can save from 5% to 70% off Amazon products in a huge range of categories. Let's jump into our list!
Of all the ways to save money on Amazon, you'll find some of the best deals at Amazon Outlet! There are thousands of products on Amazon Outlet with new deals coming every day. These products are overstock items, meaning that if a seller has too much of a certain product they will often put it on sale to clear out or balance their inventory. Often, if there are multiple colors or designs, you'll see a couple patterns with a deep discount.
The best way to use this page is to scroll down and use the "Sort by" dropdown menu to see items from high discount to low discount or from low prices to high prices. Then, I like to filter on the left side by Department (these are different categories like Automotive or Baby). You can further filter by Price, by Discount, and by Average Customer Review. There are discounts that go up to more than 70% off, and it's great because you can filter for it! If you're looking for cheap or easy decorations, the "Home" category is great. The "Luggage Travel Gear" has great deals on waxed canvas bags and travel organizers as well. Check out the clothing categories for socks and and staple/classic t-shirts. My personal favorite is the "Pet Supplies" categories for affordable (some less than $5!) toys for my dog as well as deals on dog coats/vests. Otherwise, I like to look through each of my favorite categories to find really good individual discounts. Look through Amazon Outlet to see if you can find any great deals!
If you are looking to purchase a product with different colors, patterns, or sizes, make sure you click through the different combinations of both color and size to find steep discounts! Since the inventory of a product can affect the price, take a look through your options to see if you can find any combination that has a great discount on it.
As you can see in the image above, this lightweight windbreaker is priced at $17.99 in the pink color and at a size small. It's not a bad price for a windbreaker at all, but we are hunting for actual deals here. If you click through the different sizes and different colors, you'll discover that there are price reductions with different combinations.
You see here that the same windbreaker in grey and a size large is more than 50% cheaper at $9.46. There are many deals to be found by filtering through the different options! Usually if the color / size combo is something that the seller has lots of inventory of, it will be cheaper. If the demand for a combo is pretty high, you might see that the price is also high. While it can be annoying to have different prices for the same item, you can see where this might create an opportunity to snag a product at a lower price. If there's a combo you want that's higher priced than another combo, this is a sign that the price can potentially drop in the future (or has in the past!).
You can use ReviewFinch to look up a product and see how the price has changed over time. Sometimes a product changes its price often, in which case you'd want to wait to see if you could find a better price. With other products, you might see some price volatility around the holidays but a fairly stable price for the rest of the year (as shown in the example above). If the price hasn't change for over a year, then it most likely will remain the same going forward. You can find this information by searching for a product on ReviewFinch and then clicking on the "Price Trends" tab right underneath the product title.
If you're looking for textbook deals for yourself or any students in your life, Amazon Rentals is a great way to save money on textbooks. Typically you end up buying at least 1 textbook per class and end the semester with a stack of books you likely won't need again. You can rent textbooks from Amazon for different periods of 15 days, 30 days, 60 days, 90 days or the whole semester for a fraction of the price. If you need an extension, you can get additional extensions for less as well. What's also great is that if you decide you want to purchase the book, you can also do so during your rental period. It really offers the most flexibility you can find with textbook rentals. Plus shipping is free if you have Amazon Prime or if it's over $35. (Students can try Amazon Prime for 6 months for free!) Also returns are free and super easy to do.
Amazon coupons is a great way to find deals on a wide range of products. Sellers will offer coupons for newer products or to entice customers to try a product out. You'll find the Coupon badge on the individual page and checking on the box will give you an immediate discount. However, you can also find coupons through the Amazon coupons page, where all products with coupons are listed. If you click on a product from the coupons page, it will automatically clip and apply the coupon for you (no need to click on the box!). It's much more convenient to search and apply coupons through the coupon page since you can also filter by different categories of products as well. You can view coupons that you've clipped under the "Recently Clipped Coupons section".
Amazon has a ton of different options for refurbished, pre-owned, and used items. There are 3 main categories for used items- Amazon Warehouse, Amazon Renewed Products, and Amazon Refurbished Products. We'll explain each category so that you can figure out which is the best fit for your needs.
Amazon Warehouse is where you'll find all different types of used items that have been opened and returned. A used item will be fully-functionally and pre-owned. There aren't guarantees for the appearance of the product (for example, there may be subtle scratches), but it will be functional. Also, there is no manufacturer guarantee, but there is a 30 day money-back gurantee from Amazon so if you aren't happy with the product, you can return it easily!
Products that are featured on Amazon Renewed have been inspected and tested to work like new. If there were any parts that weren't working, those parts have been replaced. The condtion will be like-new but not perfectly new (could possibly have visual wear or usage), but it will have been inspected and tested by qualified suppliers. For Amazon Renewed products, you have up to 90 days to return (compared to 30 days from Warehouse) and up to 1 year to return for qualifying iPhones.
Certified Refurbished Amazon devices are Amazon products that have been returned, then tested and refurbished to a like new quality. These devices will have the same warranty as a new device and come with a discount to boot. It includes Amazon Echo, Alexa, Fire Tablets, Fire TV, Ring security devices, Kindles, and eero routers. If you wanted to pick up a Kindle to do some light reading before bed but have been put off by the price, this is a great way to score a Kindle at a great deal!
The Amazon Trade-In program is a really great way to give your old electronics new life. With Amazon Trade-In, you send in your old games, phones, home security devices, tablets, kindles, headphones, speakers, and streaming media players in exchange for Amazon.com gift cards. You can ship your device in for free and there is an option to immediately get your gift card without waiting for your device to arrive as well. You can also search items to see if anything you have qualifies for their trade-in program. If the item arrives and Amazon determines it isn't up to the trade-in standard, they will ship it back to you free as well. If you have any old games or electronics that have long since missed the window for returns and you aren't enjoying anymore, consider trading them in in order to get Amazon.com gift cards!
Amazon Deals are products that have an additional discount on their price. Amazon Deals also includes Lightning Deals, which are deals that appear on the website until the deal is completely sold out. They go live at different times of the day, and you can view upcoming ones by checking the "Upcoming" box underneath the Availability section on the left. This is a fun page to check on every once in a while to see if there are any interesting deals. You can also filter by discount, by category, and by review. I usually like to select the "Active" checkbox to view active deals and select by discount to see if I can snag some really good deals!
Of course you never want to purchase a product blindly just because it's a good deal! You can read about the good, the bad, and the ok things that customers have to say about a product on ReviewFinch. Just search up the product and scroll to the section that has "The Good", "The Ok", and "The Bad". You can click on those to see the different feedback customers have. This is a great way to quickly understand a product, especially if you're under a time crunch when trying to snag a good deal!
If you shop with Amazon often, it can be worth it to get the Amazon credit card. There are two main credit card selections you can choose from: the Amazon Rewards Visa Card and the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card.
They both have no annual credit card fee, have no foreign transaction fees if you are traveling and use your card in another country, give 2% back at restaurants, gas stations, and drugstores, and 1% on all other purchases. The Amazon Rewards Visa Card gives you 3% back on all Amazon.com and Whole Foods Market purchases. The Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature requires that you also have a Amazon Prime membership and gives you 5% back on Amazon.com and Whole Foods Market purchases. They also offer a $100 Amazon Gift Card upon credit card approval for the Amazon Prime Rewards card. This can really add up in savings! I also have the Amazon Prime Rewards card and because I use it as my main credit card the 5% rewards really stack up. You can also choose to redeem your points on Chase.com for travel or for gift cards. I would only recommend this if you can pay your credit card in full each month and if you shop on Amazon often for your everyday needs. If this fits your profile, this is one of the easiest ways to save on Amazon.
You may have seen the Subscribe and Save badges on certain household or grocery products while shopping on Amazon. The way it works is that you'll save usually 1-5% on a product if you set up automatic deliveries. You can adjust the delivery period and cancel anytime. You can get steeper discounts (up to 15%) if you have 5 products or more that are set up for automatic delivery. If you have a new family member and need diapers and baby food, you can save up to 20% off with 5 or more products set up for Subscribe and Save. This option is great if you run out of a certain product at regular interval (paper towels, dog food, sodas, vitamins, etc.) and are savvy about cancelling deliveries when you feel you don't need them that often!
Amazon subscription boxes are a super fun way to save money on a category if you are frequent shopper. For a fixed price each month (some boxes have different frequencies), you'll receive a variety of products related to a certain category. For example, there is the Prime Book Box for Kids, which will send 2 hardcover books or 4 board books set at different age levels. There is also the Allure Beauty box, which sends luxury beauty samples along with 1-2 full-size products for $15.00 a month. I also like Barkbox, which sends dog treats and toys. With these boxes, you can skip or cancel anytime. If you regularly spend money in a certain category trying and discovering new products, a subscription box would be a perfect fit for you and save you money.
woot! is an Amazon company that features different daily deals on electronics, garden, home, and outdoors products. Since woot! is a seperate entity from Amazon.com, you'll find different deals on woot! from different suppliers and brands. They also offer shipping benefits for Amazon Prime members. You can see the top deals on the Amazon woot! page, but they also have a separate website and app if you decide you like the deals they offer and want to monitor them more closely.
If you receive SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assitance Program) benefits, you're in luck! You can use SNAP EBT on grocery and pantry items on Amazon. This also works for their Amazon Fresh program if it is available in your area, which offers fresh and refridgerated products (like produce and meats).
Additionally, you can receive a 50% discount on an Amazon Prime membership if you receive SNAP benefits, which comes out to only $5.99 a month. Amazon Prime comes with free delivery, a huge library of free movies and TV. There are also ways to shop on Amazon with cash as well.
Of course, the best way to save money on Amazon is to buy quality products so you don't have to waste money and time having to return and replace an item. You've probably seen badges on certain products that state that it is a bestseller on Amazon. There is a super convenient page that has all the bestsellers across all the categories that is updated hourly. If you're searching for a specific product, you can check out the bestsellers in the category you are shopping for to see the most popular products in one glance.
You can also view the sales rank of a different product on Amazon and the sales rank history. If the product has a sales rank of 1, it is the best selling product in its category. Usually a sales rank of up to 10,000 is a pretty great rank since a category can have millions of products. It really just depends on the category the product falls into. Here you can see that the Giant Swan Pool Float had a sales rank in the 50,000 - 100,000 range from September to March, but is in the 100-200 range for April to August when it's super hot out!
